Just came back from a short trip to Galiza after recording a song with legendary Spanish artist Victor Coyote for his next album. He did a swinging cover version of the song “Havemos de ir a Viana” by Amália Rodrigues on the ukulele.
Tomorrow travelling for the first time to the Czech Republic!
My Polish siostra Agnieszka Piksa is showing her work in Brno at a comics event called “Minutové Hry“, organized by Komixxx. She suggested that I play at the opening and with the help of some friends I was able to get these 4 dates together:
05/10 – afternoon show for children – TBA, Prague (+ Turpentine Ray)
05/10 – Café Spitfire – Prague, CZ (+ Kojoti + special guest)
08/10 – opening concert of “Komixxx – minutové hry” @ Kavarna Trojka – Brno, CZ ( + Kamarádi + DJ Wita Sax)
11/10 – Galeria Onamato – Krakow, PL (acoustic show)
In November I will play in my hometown Lisbon (at ZDB, with Helena Espvall and O Gringo Sou Eu) and Porto (Armazém do Chá), and off to Bordeaux (still trying to add more dates in France).
In December I wil take part in a festival/residency in Madeira called Multimadeira.
Pop Up! is a new lounge space located at Avenida da Liberdade 159 in Lisbon. During one month it will host a number of concerts, art shows and other live events. RB will perform on Feb 1. More info on http://www.popup.com.pt/
Some pictures of the show (taken by Aleksandar Mijailovic). Rita had a special guest from Brazil on 2 songs, Frankão, who rocked on the pandeiro!
MUSICBOX in Lisbon is celebrating their 5th anniversary with a series of live concerts and dj sets. Rita Braga was invited for the closing evening on December 10, also featuring SEAN RILEY.
Here are some videos from my album release party in Lisbon at Teatro do Bairro. I had a fantastic band – Nik Phelps on the clarinet and pocket trumpet, Chris Carlone on drums and harmonica, Tiago Nicolau on the standup bass and Rui Damaso on the slide guitar. 2 guys from Lisbon and 2 guys from San Francisco! Chris will soon upload the other videos from this show.
we also had time to shoot some videos with Chips and Salsa (me and Chris) at the Principe Real park in Lisbon.
during her recent 3 months tour in the US, Rita Braga acted in a weird short silent film directed by Claude Cardenas called “wander”, shot in San Francisco. The movie has only 2 characters, one being Rita and the other is Steffey Sue, a very cool ukulele player from Berkeley! Rita is currently writing the original score for “wander” in Lisbon. The song “A Lira” from the new abum “Cherries…” will also be part of the soundtrack.
You can discover more of Claude’s photography here.
Rita Braga’s debut album “Cherries That Went To The Police” was recentely printed in the US and will be available for sale from on September 26th. The concert release party will happen in Lisbon at TEATRO DO BAIRRO on the 15th October. More info soon.
RB was a guest of the project “A Musica Portuguesa A Gostar Dela Própria” by director Tiago Pereira, an online channel/archive which attempts to register in video all the contemporary music being made in Portugal. You can view the 3 videos here, all shot at LX Factory in Lisbon.
