new recordings in 2013

This year I’ll be working in three different projects which shall be released sometime in the future in cd and/or vinyl:

2012-10-11 18.45.51

1) a first EP of Chips and Salsa, featuring 6 original songs – I’m writing new stuff to which Chris is adding beautiful arrangements, all done over the internet

2) a new collaboration with Nick Castro, who toured Portugal last year – Nick is writing some beautiful songs to which I’m adding lyrics in Portuguese, sounding somewhere in between Tropicalia and 1960’s French and Italian film scores

3) … and I will be working on my second album with my first ever rock n’ roll band Indiozinhos Psicodélicos! In fact I am moving to Brazil soon to work with these guys and more gangsters from São Paulo, hoping to absorb as much as I can from the fantastic musical culture of this country!

Soon announcing new tour dates and radio shows, starting in Recife!

Update on Chips and Salsa – First Official Release to be out in 2013!

And through the wonders of the internet, while I sit at home in Porto writing new songs, Dr. Chips is in his secret lab in his new home in Los Angeles adding some magic to them. We’re working on our first official release to be out in 2013 (an EP with 6 new songs). And we’ll be posting demos on Soundcloud.

Nothing Beneath Us Premier Screening Party in New York

Image

“Nothing Beneath Us” is a dark, modern, poetic, surreal sort of fairytale about a young dancer named Annabel Lee, who’s caught in a downward spiral of drugs, alcohol and an abusive relationship. Her days and nights blur together and now her dreams are blurring the line of reality. A journey through Annabel’s dreams, and hopes in a visual and audible feast that’s sure to stay with you long after its 15 minute length.

The party will be at IndieScreen in Williamsburg which is a really nice little 90 seat theatre. There is Beer and Wine and food available. There will also be live music before and after the film.

Starring Teresa Bayer, John O’Mahoney, Josh Hibbard, Milah Carlone, Stacy Malia and Pixie the dog

Directed By Chris Carlone

Screenplay By Hilde Susan Jaegtnes

Produced By Chris Carlone & Hilde Susan Jaegtnes

Director of Photography – Travis Fowler

Original Music – Rita Braga, Susan Jaegtnes and Chris Carlone”

CHIPS AND SALSA @ PANAZOREAN FILM FESTIVAL

My duet Chips and Salsa had a blast playing at the opening party for the PANAZOREAN FILM FESTIVAL! This time we met about half way from our two hometowns, in the middle of the Atlantic in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores.

Sound checking (notice the giant cactus on the background that Pedro brought especially for our show!)

just before we hit the stage

Soon I’ll be posting videos from our performance.

We also did 2 little videos on the island:

8:30: The Idea (dir. Berthold Bartosch, 1932) and The Adventures of Prince Achmed (dir. Lotte Reiniger, 1926) with live music by Chips and Salsa

“This very special program will include a screening of Berthold Barthosch’s short animated film The Idea, based upon the eponymous woodcut novel by Belgian printmaker Frans Masereel. Bartosch’s film features a mixture of techniques, including stop motion animation and various optical effects. Bartosch learned many of these methods as an assistant to pioneering animator Lotte Reiniger, best known for creating the first still-extant animated feature film The Adventures of Prince Achmed. Based on Araban Nights fairy tales, Prince Achmed features Reiniger’s distinctive, elaborately jointed cut paper silhouette animation, enhanced with mesmerizing abstract effects and sumptuous dyed film stock in a variety of saturated hues. The international multi-instrumentalist duo Chips and Salsa will provide live musical accompaniment to these stunning and rare animated films.”
