Bernardo Devlin’s “Sic Transit”

And who is Bernardo Devlin? In two lines and without much explanation, to me he is one of the most original singer and songwriters to ever come out of Portugal, and yet remains quite undiscovered. Active since the mid 80’s in many projects before going on a solo career, Sic Transit is his 5th solo album.

You can listen to the entire album on his bandcamp page.

There are some reviews online such as this one (from the Dutch magazine “Vital Weekly”).

Four reasons for this post:

#1 – Devlin produced my first album “Cherries That Went To The Police”. Such details as the laughing and car introduction on the first track and other collages were his ideas and I just went along with it. He has also mixed it and recorded it. Needless to say, besides all the influence he had on the result, that’s a lot of hard work.

#2 – All the songs on Sic Transit feature vocals, guitar, piano, bass and drums. One detail is that I split the piano with Luísa Gonçalves, each of us recording on 3 different tracks. The styles are different. It was the first time I ever played the piano on someone’s album and I love these songs.

#3 – To quote Chris Carlone, Bernardo Devlin is the ultimate badass.

#4 – Buy the album, and you won’t regret!
